“What applications can I use to host my virtual Photos, Videos, and Audio Files?“
When you order your custom Memory Mug, you might be asking yourself what URL to provide us. Here are some common applications that our current customers use, along with some free 3rd party applications that we work with.
Remember, any URL can be turned into a QR code so as long as you send us a public facing URL (and by public, we mean don’t send us a private album unless you plan on sharing a password or credentials to your recipient!).
Social Media URLS:
- URL to a Facebook Photo Album
- URL to a Social Media page
- URL to a Youtube video or account
- URL to your Google Photos or Apple Photos
Virtual Scrapbook Websites and Platforms
- Memento: From birthday parties to holidays to school events, Shared Albums is the best photo sharing app for families. Guests can upload (and download) photos and videos with one simple & secure link.
- Canva: Canva isn’t just a design tool; it has templates for virtual scrapbooks as well. Users can add photos, videos, and design elements, then share the final product via a unique link.
- Smilebox: This platform offers a range of customizable templates. Once the scrapbook is created, it can be shared with a link.
- Google Slides: Although primarily a presentation tool, Google Slides can be creatively used as a virtual scrapbook. Users can then share their “presentation” using a view-only link.
- PicCollage: Originally an app, it also has a web version where users can create collages that can resemble digital scrapbook pages.
Please note that at this time we do not offer photo and video hosting (or any other media) and we are not responsible for data loss when you are hosting your files on any platform. When selecting your virtual scrapbook platform, please be aware of free trials and subscriptions. There are many free offerings for you to choose from that do not require a paid subscription. We are also not responsible for URLs going down or being unavailable, as that is the responsibility of whatever website you decide to share with us!
Selecting a URL that You Can Always Update
When deciding on what URL to send us, be sure it is one that you can always add content to! This enables your unique mug to be editable forever. As long as the URL stays the same, the content hosted within the URL can be changed! This means if you decide to share a Facebook album, great! You can always add and change photos – meaning that your recipient can always check back and see the new photos you added!
That is the great thing about using a virtual photo album platform. Most of our users create a virtual album from one of the recommended platforms above, send us the URL, we generate a QR code from it, print it on the mug, and then they are able to add content to that virtual album forever! A lot of these platforms also have the option for you to add additional guests to your virtual album so that other’s can share media to the album as well. Make sense? If not, please don’t hesitate to contact us on Facebook or at hello@thememorymug.com.
Choosing Public Facing URLs
When choosing a URL to send us for your QR code creation, it is essential to ensure:
- The platform allows sharing via a link
- The shared content is viewable without requiring the viewer to sign up or log in.
- The platform respects user privacy and content rights.
